Discrete Trial Training (DTT) for Children (Ages 2–8)
Our Discrete Trial Training (DTT) program is a structured, evidence-based teaching method designed to help children between the ages of 2 and 8 build strong communication and learning foundations. Sessions are conducted at the table using engaging 2D visual cards, providing both receptive and expressive learning opportunities to expand vocabulary, enhance speech, and strengthen communication skills.
We implement DTT with a positive learning approach, using errorless learning correction procedures and behavior momentum techniques. By starting with a child’s strengths, we capture focus and motivation—making it easier for them to acquire new skills with confidence.
Each session is intentionally short, structured, and goal-driven, ensuring effective learning without overwhelming the child. Breaks are built in to allow for sensory regulation, whether a child is overstimulated or needs additional sensory input. During these breaks, we also observe behaviors that may inform the teaching approach.
To track progress, we collect data on a single data sheet measuring correct responses across trials. Once a child achieves 80% accuracy across two sessions, we advance to the next skill phase. This ensures that progress is measurable, consistent, and personalized to your child’s developmental goals.
At the heart of our DTT program is our belief in every child’s potential. We never underestimate what a child can achieve—we focus on unlocking strengths, nurturing abilities, and fostering confidence.
